Evening of Shakuhachi flutes at Yume Japanese Gardens on March 29

“Come, escape the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary at our Evening of the season at Yume Japanese Gardens.

As the sun sets, watch as the gardens come alive with the soft glow of lanterns, casting a warm and inviting light on the gardens’ pathways. The interplay of shadows and light adds a touch of magic to the already enchanting surroundings.

Let the soulful melodies of the traditional shakuhachi flute transport you to a realm of peace and harmony. The haunting tunes, played by skilled musicians, will resonate through the garden, enhancing the atmosphere with every note.

The symphony of nature and culture will create memories that will linger in your heart forever.

Paul Amiel will perform at 6:15 and James Tong will perform at 7.

Curry Rice (Vegetarian and Meat) and onigiri (rice balls) will be sold as well if you’d like to enjoy the melodic atmosphere with some deliciousness.

Paul Amiel is a gifted musician involved in a variety of world musics, playing gothic harp, the Chinese guqin, the ancient Greek lyre, and the Turkish ney among others, and performs regularly with his Aegean-Balkan duo Kyklo and his art-rock band Animal Saint. He studied Kinko ryu shakuhachi in Nagoya, Japan with lida Katsutoshi, and in 2014 founded the Empty Bamboo Shakuhachi Circle in Tucson.

James Tong grew up in Japan immersed in the sounds of traditional music. In the US he studied and performed Native American flute. Later, he began traditional shakuhachi studies starting with Kinko ryu teachers such as Paul Amiel, Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos, and Shawn Renzo Head, and is presently studying the Myoan and Kinpu ryu schools with Nick Bellando.
